Prairie Sunrise is designed for young band, or as great sight-reading practice for intermediate level ensembles. A simple melody is passed around the band, accompanied by emphatic low brass and basic percussion. Careful doubling allows for the piece to be performed effectively without the full notated instrumentation. This is a great piece to close out the first year of band. Clarinets go above the break for a short time and trumpets have a divisi part at the end.
