Inspiration is dedicated to the late Robert W. Smith. Mr. Smith's work has had a profound influence on me, having been a staple of the repertoire throughout my musical development from Middle School through my professional career. Inspiration is reflective, powerful, and heroic.

The opening section should be approached as a chorale with an overlaid fanfare. The second section is a celebration of sorts, with the second, lyrical melody maintaining a sense of melancholic reflection. The final section is a triumphant declaration of the first theme. The lead horn part must soar through the upper register in its presentation of the melody. All rhythmic parts should adhere to the articulations indicated to keep the accompaniment light and provide clear forward motion.
